Call Schedule

The resident call schedule will be distributed by class year and divided equally amongst 3 residents as follows for a 52-week, 365-day academic calendar.

  • PGY-1: 1st year class will be responsible for 278 days of primary call, including government holidays.
  • PGY-2: 2nd year class will be responsible for 60 days of primary call and 82 days of secondary call. 2nd years will also assist as back up call for the first part of the year.
  • PGY-3: 3rd year class will be responsible for 27 days of primary call and 36 days of secondary call.

The on-call resident is responsible for all call related duties including patient contacts, rounding, etc. All handoffs between on call residents will occur on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays prior to any clinical responsibility and may be conducted in person, via phone or a Zoom call.

The Holidays will be divided amongst the 1st year class and neither the 2nd nor the 3rd years will be responsible for any holidays. If a call weekday falls on the Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, a 1st year will replace the respective upper level on that specific holiday.

On call quarters are provided for all residents.

Research

Each resident is encouraged to produce one research manuscript suitable for submission to a peer reviewed journal, clinics issue or textbook based on available opportunities afforded them.

The podiatric resident should prepare at least one poster at a regional or national podiatric meeting.

In addition to conducting their own research, each resident will be afforded the opportunity to be involved with clinical trials conducted within the Foot & Ankle division of the Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Department.
