How to Apply Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Top For specific eligibility requirements, please refer to the GME benefits, requirements and resources page. Our residency program only accepts applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). ERAS collects the required materials and then transmits these documents from your medical school to our residency program. We do not require any materials beyond the ERAS requirements. Our department participates in the National Residency Matching Program. Required Documents ERAS Common Application Form A personal statement CV Three letters of recommendation: The chair, chief or program director of orthopedic surgery at your medical school Two from physicians who are familiar with your work or abilities Dean's letter (downloaded from your school on November 1st) Official medical school transcript USMLE score report (Must have both Step 1 and Step 2) Please do not mail any documents to our program unless we request them from you directly. Deadline We accept applications through ERAS and will review all applications on the deadline date of October 1 (with the exception of the Dean's letter). Our program director and faculty will review all the required materials and select applicants to attend an interview in Jacksonville. Each of these individuals will be notified through the ERAS system no later November 30. We suggest that individuals attending an interview arrive in Jacksonville the night preceding their interview. This will allow interviewees the time to attend a special welcome reception at one of our local restaurants (the exact location will be communicated to all applicants prior to their arrival). Our interview day will begin at 7:00 a.m. and end no later than 1 p.m. Please take note that there are a limited number of interview spots available on each day. Programs and Tools that Assist with GME Applications At the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville, we recognize that there are a variety of programs and tools that applicants can and may choose to utilize to develop portions of their GME application, such as the personal statement. We wish to emphasize that the personal statement should reflect an accurate picture of the applicant’s experiences, character, motivations, and qualities. Applicants should include specifics relevant to a medical career, a certain specialty, and a particular program. A genuine and authentic personal statement should be the goal. Most medical schools provide important guidance and resources in writing successful personal statements; we recommend reviewing these tips.
